SRU MEDIA HALL OF FAME

The History of Media at SRU
Radio Broadcasting began at Slippery Rock University in 1962, first by transmitting throughout campus to fellow students over the AM Band as WNFT, eventually changing their call letters to WRCK. When the station went to FM, it launched as WRSK-FM. Today, the current WSRU-FM can be heard through Slippery Rock and the surrounding community. WSRU-TV is completely student-produced and run television broadcast production company.
WSRU-TV has been covering sporting events, such as football, basketball and soccer games, campus events, such as Jack Hanna's visit to Slippery Rock, and has been creating an outside the studio news broadcast continuing with the "Around the Rock" program. In 2013, it is published every Friday during the academic period with the exception of holidays, exam periods and vacations.
The Rocket began publication in 1934. It currently has a total weekly circulation (print version) of over 7,000 and is distributed throughout campus and the surrounding community of Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania. Originally published as hard copy print journalism, The Rocket now is also online and widely read by both Alumni of SRU and the general public worldwide.
